Add to your knowledge of Irish-language song in this online course that focuses on the Donegal singing tradition. This course is suitable for adults who are interested in traditional Irish songs, whether you are a beginner or someone who sings regularly. The course will be taught by singer Ellie Nic Fhionnghaile.

You will gain an understanding of the background to the songs, their words and have plenty of opportunities to practice your singing in a relaxed and encouraging environment. There will also be some opportunities for online social gatherings outside of the classes themselves. All events will be delivered via Zoom. The classes will be delivered bilingually: you do not need to be fluent Irish speaker to join but a knowledge of Irish will be an advantage.

Timetable

Participants will attend one class per week from 7.00–8.30pm (Irish time) on Wednesday evenings. The course includes eight live online classes starting the week of October 11th, 2021. There will be no mid-term break this season.

Teacher

Ellie Nic Fhionnghaile is a singer and fiddle player from Gleann Cholm Cille, Co. Donegal. She sings with the groups Anúna and Systir. She holds a degree in Applied Music from Dundalk Institute of Technology and is currently conducting research on women in Irish traditional music with a focus on Donegal.
